This past Saturday Sept 12th, the Swift Current Motocross Club hosted our final race of the year. This was also the final race of the CMRC Provincial series for the year. We would like to extend our thanks to the Living Sky Casino management and staff for hosting our year-end awards banquet Saturday evening in the Sky Center. This was a perfect place to host the banquet as the atmosphere and the facility was top notch! As for the race, we had a good one! The weather was perfect, sunny with a breeze and not extremely hot out. The motos all went well with everyone riding safe, only a few minor crashes and no ambulance rides all day to my knowledge.
A few highlights of the raceday are as follows. Our local Pro #37 Shawn Maffenbeier who is back home from competing on the CMRC Canadian National Series really took the Saskatchewan boys to school, winning all three Pro classes he entered and made it look easy. We're all proud to have a local rider from Swift Current who competes at such a high level! Watch for big results from Shawn in the future as he keeps getting faster each year. Jason Cooke rode to a 2nd place finish overall in the Vet Master class with his usual smooth style. Nick Briere rode really well in his first competitive real race taking GP Beginner class with a first place finish. In the mini bike classes, Tanner Stevenson, Adler Irwin, Cole Kelly, Mason Smeby and Branden Metivier battled it out with the other provincial riders and all finished well. The mini riders are the future of our sport and will maybe someday become the pros we cheer for and see on television, so way to go guys! You all did well.
