Haichert opens Viterra Scotties with extra-end win

TeeJay Haichert scored one point in an extra end to open the 2014 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts with a win Wednesday in Tisdale.

Haichert, curling out of the Swift Current Curling Club, defeated Biggar's Brett Barber 6-5 in draw one of the 12-team provincial championship. The two teams traded points throughout the game and Barber scored one in the 10th end to force an extra end.

Haichert will be back on the ice Thursday morning to face Balgonie's Mandy Selzer in draw three. She will also meet Regina's Lana Vey Thursday evening in draw five as the round robin continues.

Haichert is joined by lead Allison McMillan, second Kelsey Dutton, and third Janelle Tyler. The team is coached by Ken Dutton.
