The Swift Current Comp. Colts failed to make the championship game for the first time in their past five tournament outings as they were eliminated in Yorkton in the quarter-finals.
The Colts were eliminated by the host Raiders in three sets (25-17, 20-25, 24-26) to see their tournament come to an end without a medal for the first time since September 25th.
Heading into the playoffs the Colts were 3-2 with wins over Prince Albert Carlton (25-9, 23-25, 17-15), Roblin (25-15, 25-19), and Kelvington (25-20, 25-14). The Colts also suffered losses to Fox Valley (25-14, 18-25, 10-15) and Oxbow (24-26, 24-26).
Grade 12 right side attacker Curtis Dyck led the Colts with 101 kills over the six matches with a 60 percent kill percentage. Grade 12 left side attacker Darby Zacharias added 75 kills with a 53 percent kill percentage.
The Colts early exit was ill-timed as they will be in Estevan next weekend for the 5A SHSAA South Regional tournament in hopes of earning one of four spots in provincials the following weekend.
Friday, the Colts will see round robin action against Yorkton Sacred Heart, Weyburn, and Moose Jaw Central.
Yorkton Regional, Moose Vanier, Moose Jaw Peacock, and Estevan have been grouped together in the other pool.
The top three teams in both pools will advance to the playoffs with the first place teams earning a bye into the semi-final.
The 12-team provincial finals will be held in Melfort on November 19-20.
