Swift Current’s Kelly Wiebe placed third at the Cross Country CIS Championships at Fort Henry Hill in Kingston over the weekend.

The third-year runner helped the Regina Cougars to a Canada West title and the Cougars also placed fourth overall in the team standings behind Guelph, Windsor, and St. Francis Xavier.

Wiebe led all Canada West runners finishing in third-place overall in 30:49 over the ten-kilometre course.

The Cougars’ Southwest connection did not end with Wiebe though as Eastend’s Dale Wig finished in 21st place with a time of 32:25 and Consul’s Eric Benjamin finished in 119th place with a time of 35:52.

Wiebe and Wig were both named Canada West First-team All-Stars, while Wiebe was also named the Canada West Male Runner of the Year and a CIS First-team All-Canadian.
