There was no shortage of Southwest participants at the Queen City Marathon in Regina last month. Swift Current's Ted Mortensen was the fastest finisher among seven Southwest competitors in the full marathon in 3:23:56 to place 43rd overall and fifth among 52 runners in the 45-49 age category. Swift Current's Karla Cairns was second among female runners age 20-24 in 3:24:12 and placed 45th overall.
Waldeck's Robert Neufeld placed 157th overall and 25th among 52 runners age 45-49 in 3:54:52.
Swift Current's Cynthia Casavant was 15th among 35-39 runners in 5:02:25, while James Bradshaw was seventh among runners 19 and under in 5:08:38.Tanya Bouvier-Mortensen finished 21st in the 40-44 age group in 5:31:22.Alison Banman of Swift Current crossed the finish line in 6:07:30 in the 30-34 age group.
In the half marathon Swift Current's Bryan Schlamp placed 29th overall and fourth among 70 runners in the 40-44 age group in 1:35:56.Travis Kelln covered the course in 1:37:16 to place 37th overall and sixth in the 35-39 age category.Swift Current's Brad Robinson finished in 1:44:06 to place 11th in the 35-39 age group.
Swift Current's Jim Bobick topped his 65-69 age category in 1:44:16.Larry Stephens placed third in the 60-64 age group in 1:47:45.Danielle Bourgeois of Swift Current finished 30th out of 150 competitors in the 35-39 age group in 1:58:54.Erin Kinney finished in 2:03:15, Shaunavon's Michelle Hansen in 2:04:46, Maple Creek's Lou-Ellen Murray in 2:08:46, Swift Current's Hailey McRae in 2:11:50, Patricia Peters in 2:13:31, Ralp Aman in 2:14:16, and Bev McRae in 2:21:17.
Four Southwest runners also took part in the mini marathon 5-10 age group led by Dylan Mortensen who placed sixth in 13:16, followed by Riley Haubrich of Hodgeville in 13:45.Emma Krauchek of Hodgeville placed sixth among girls in 17:02, followed by Swift Current's Madison Mortensen in 23:05.I
n the 11-17 mini marathon Hodgeville's Brooklyn Haubrich placed 17th overall and fourth among girls in 12:41.Shaunavon's Rebecca Hansen was 33rd among girls in 15:44, and Swift Current's Jacelei Schlamp was 57th in 19:59.
Five other participants also took part in the half marathon walk led by a quartet of Swift Current women who crossed the finish line within one second of each other. Marla Foster, Shantell Winter, Tarina Kelln, and Jody Lakin-Tonnies all finished in just over 3:15:51.Hodgeville's Elizabeth Haubrich finished in 3:24:24 in the 45-49 age group to place 23rd.
