Swift Current's five outdoor skating rinks reopened on Thursday following a trio of days where extreme weather kept them closed.
The outdoor rinks were closed this past Monday by blizzard conditions, and they remained closed on Tuesday and Wednesday as a result of extreme wind chills which dropped into the -40 to -50 range.
"The staff of the Recreation and Parks Department felt that due to the extreme temperatures and wind chill, it would be in the best interest of public safety to temporarily close the outdoor rinks," noted Parks Manager Andy Toth.
