The Colts soccer team won twice and lost once at their annual home tournament to open the season
The Swift Current Comp. Colts soccer team opened their season with two wins and a loss at their annual home tournament over the weekend.
The Colts opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones on Friday. Grade nine rookie Jayden Haubrich scored his first goal in a Colts’ uniform in the loss.
The Colts rebounded Saturday morning with a 5-2 win over Yorkton Regional. Haubrich led the Colts with a hat trick, while Sebastian Torres and Jairo Perez both added singles.
The hosts concluded their tournament with a 5-1 win over Weyburn. Torres scored all five Swift Current goals in his first five-goal performance.
“We use this tournament as a tune-up/practice to see how our team chemistry is,” explained coach Chris Garner. “Based on what we saw there needs work on some basic fundamentals as well as formation/position.”
The Colts played the tournament with a reduced roster due to other commitments.
“I was impressed with how well the team came together despite missing nine key players throughout the tournament,” noted Garner.
Garner was also excited about the impact some of his new faces made.
“This is a rebuilding year for us and it is looking promising with new players like Jayden Haubrich, Kyle Tisdale, Jas Singh, Zach McCallum taking on leadership roles already.”
