A pair of Swift Current United Soccer Club Under-12 Girls teams were in Regina this past weekend for the QCT Challenge Cup.

The United Hurricanes finished in third spot and the United Wildfire placed sixth at the 10-team, Div II tournament.

The Wildfire had one win and two ties in round robin play. They opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over the Moose Jaw Storm with a goal from MJ Anderson. They also posted 0-0 draws against the Yorkton United Shock and the Weyburn Lil Red Devils.  Unfortunately, there was a three-way tie for points in this pool with Yorkton advancing based on goal differential.

They also defeated the host QC United 4-0. Autumn Nimegeers scored twice, while Michaela Smuk and Taylor Kohls added singles. Nickel and Therrien shared the shutout in goal.

The United Hurricanes also lost to Regina’s REU Storm 2-1 on a single goal from Amanda Thoreson.

They were the top second place finisher and advanced to a semifinal where they lost 1-0 to Bonvital Winnipeg when Bonvital scored in the last two minutes of the game.

The United Hurricanes are coached by Mark Thoreson and Ivan Nickel with Leanne Jacklin as the bench manager.  The United Wildfire are coached by Dean Klassen and Trent McCleary with Melinda Klassen and Annette Klevgaard sharing the bench manager duty.  Ruth Weiner is behind the scenes as the administrative manager for both teams.
