The Swift Current United Soccer Club Under-16 Girls suffered their second shootout loss in a tournament final this season at ACFC Winterfest in Regina to settle for silver.
Friday, the U16 girls had no trouble in their first game in a month with a 2-0 win over the Saskatoon Hollandia Fuzion. Cassandra Furey-Cameron picked up the shutout and Shae Barber and Santana Gowan both netted goals.
They moved to 2-0 with a 4-0 win over Saskatoon SUSC Storm on Saturday in a very physical match. Gowan paced the offense with two goals, Leia Anderson also scored, and they benefitted from an own goal as well. Furey-Cameron picked up her second straight shutout in the win.
They lost 2-0 to Saskatoon Aurora Gemini Sunday to finish second in the six-team round robin.
They faced Aurora again in the afternoon championship match and lost 2-1 in a shootout. Gowan scored the lone goal in regulation.
Next action for the U16 United girls will be Provincials in Regina on March 1-3.
