The Swift Current United Soccer Club under-14 Div II girls indoor soccer team had no problems earning a third gold medal this season at ACFC Winterfest in Regina.

They rattled off four straights wins, outscoring their opponents 24-1 along the way to improve to 14-0 against Div II competition this indoor season.

Swift Current opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over the Humboldt Hurricanes Friday led by two goals from Kylie Carefoot. Ashley Eben, Brooke Vallee, and Danika Krywulak all added singles in the win.

The floodgates opened Saturday for the United girls as Vallee netted a hat trick in a 9-0 win over the Saskatoon Aurora Horizon. Mackenzie Froehlich, Carefoot, Payton Schwan, Eben, and Marissa Hilmoe all added singles.

They cruised into the final with a 3-0 win over Regina’s UCT Blue Devils Sunday morning. Eben, Vallee, and Haley Bissonnette all scored in the win.

Swift Current faced Saskatoon’s Aurora Galaxy in Sunday’s final and finished off the tournament in dominating fashion with a 7-0 win. Vallee scored two more goals, followed by singles from Eben, Froehlich, Schwan, Hilmoe, and Christina Chase. Hannah Dyck earned her third consecutive shutout in the United goal.

“They are really starting to know where one another is on the field all the time,” explained coach Dale Perry. “They don’t even have to talk anymore. They are just starting to know.”

Perry at times does not allow the team to score when their play begins to decline in games. “So they have to get involved and move and talk and communicate. When they play like that they are amazing the way they can move the ball around and keep control of it for five minutes at a time,” he explained.

The United girls have now outscored Div II opponents 79-4 in 14 tournament wins this season.

“They definitely need to play some stronger competition,” conceded Perry, who is looking for ways to keep his team motivated at his point in the season. “It is hard because they find out so early in a game that they are superior. You just have to make it a little bit more difficult for them to do things so that they have to work harder.”

He hopes the team will get that challenge when they play a couple of exhibition games against Regina Unidad Premier teams in Moose Jaw on Sunday.
