Kaylyn Kyle

A new generation of soccer stars got the chance of a lifetime to share in the success of a homegrown hero last week.

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Kaylyn Kyle was the special guest of the Swift Current Broncos at Friday’s game against Seattle and she shared her soccer experience that has taken her from the soccer fields in Saskatoon all the way to the podium at the 2012 London Olympics.

Kyle told her story to an eager crowd prior to the game, composed primarily of young female soccer players.

“Every time I get to come and talk to a young group of ladies it is amazing. They inspire me to get out of bed every morning to go to the gym because I don’t want them to steal my spot,” she laughed. “They are great group of girls and I am very honoured to be here.”

She said her life has changed since the Women’s National Team captured the imagination of many Canadians with their inspiring Olympic performance.

“It has been a whirlwind to say the least. There have been lots of events and people wanting to fly you places, meeting a lot of amazing people. The one thing I have taken away from it is how proud everyone is of you. Not only my family and friends, but people in the streets will come up to you and say ‘congratulations, you did this country an absolute honour.’ So it is pretty cool hearing that as a 24-year-old.”
