The Swift Current Comp. Ardens are just one win away from a fourth straight Moose Jaw High School Soccer League title after a dominating 9-0 semifinal win over the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones.
The Ardens got out to a slow start but turned it on at the 15-minute mark and cruised to the win.
Cassidy Andres led the attack with four goals and an assist as she ignited the offense. Grade nine rookie Kirstie Klevgaard added two goals and two assists. Grade 10 midfielder Kelsey Therrien scored twice and added an assist as well.
Emilie Erlandson closed the scoring late in the contest. Santana Gowan set up a pair of goals, while Tara Kirkpatrick and Andrea Erlandson added single helpers.
“We had a rough start, but as the game progressed we got better,” explained Therrien, a grade 10 midfielder.
Britney Cleaveley, Cassandra Furey-Cameron, and Andres shared the shutout in goal.
The Ardens will face Weyburn in the championship match Tuesday back in Moose Jaw.
They will also likely face Weyburn in the South Regional Final on Oct. 20 in Swift Current.
“The key for us in those games against Weyburn will be to play hard for the full 90 minutes of the game, and to win all the battles,” said Therrien.
