Ardens win silver at gruelling tournament

The Swift Current Comp. Ardens rattled off four consecutive wins on their way to a second-pace finish at a 16-team tournament in Moose Jaw over the weekend.

The Ardens’ eight-game winning streak to open the season came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Regina LeBoldus in the championship match.

The Ardens picked up round robin wins over Prince Albert St. Mary II, Moose Jaw Central, and Notre Dame on Friday.

They advanced to the final with a 2-0 win over Regina Campbell in the semifinal Saturday morning.

Cassidy Andres led the Ardens with 10 goals and two assists, while Jade Addai added three goals and three assists. Kelsey Therrien added two goals and Santana Gowan chipped in a goal and two assists. Leia Anderson added a single goal, while Tara Kirkpatrick, Kaylynn Ziegler, Kirstie Klevgaard, Emilie Erlandson, and Shae Bolton all added assists.

The Ardens will be back in Moose Jaw to face Central on Tuesday and again on Saturday when they meet Estevan and Vanier in an attempt to lock up top spot in the regular season for the eighth consecutive season.

The three-time defending Moose Jaw League champions are currently 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 34-1 to extend their league unbeaten streak to 39 games over four seasons.
