The Swift Current Foresters United Under-14 Sabercats finished with a 1-1-1 record at the ACFC Winterfest indoor soccer tournament in Regina over the weekend.
The Sabercats, comprised entirely of first-year under-14 players, competed in the six-team, division two category.
Coached by Dale Perry and Laverne Krywulak, the United Sabrecats opened their tournament with a 3-1 loss to the Saskatoon Eastside Wildcats on Friday evening. Brooke Vallee scored the lone goal on a 20-yard strike.
Saturday, the United Sabrecats were within one minute of victory before allowing a goal with only 58 seconds remaining to draw Saskatoon’s SUSC Christies 1-1. Shayla Driver scored the lone goal for Swift Current.
They found their offensive touch in their round robin finale with a 6-0 win over Warman’s VSA 99 Tigers. Vallee paced the offense with two goals, while Mackenzie Froehlich, Ashley Eben, Christina Chase, and Melina Klein all scored. Hannah Dyck earned the shutout in goal.
Next action for the U14 United Sabercats will be Feb 24-26 at the Saskatchewan Soccer Association’s Division Two Provincials in Saskatoon.
