Ardens top SHSAA Regionals

The Swift Current Comp. Ardens came out on top of the SHSAA 3A South Regional with an impressive 5-0 win over Weyburn on Saturday.

The Ardens overcame the early loss of centre halfback Kaylee Kyle as they held the Eagles without a single scoring chance over 90 minutes. Kaylie Walker and Beriah Klein shared the shutout in the Ardens goal.

Emilie Erlandson had a domintaing performance as she scored a pair of first half goals. Fellow grade 10 striker Cassidy Andres took over in the second half with a pair of goals to seal the victory.

Grade 9 Tara Kirkpatrick punctuated the victory with a late goal to close the scoring.

The Ardens will be off to Weyburn for provincials next weekend.

The Eagles had advanced to the final with a 7-0 win over Estevan earlier in the day and will also be at provincials as the host squad.

On the boy's side, the Swift Current Comp. Colts were eliminated from provincial contention with a 2-1 loss to the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders in the semi-final. Juan Cabrales scored the lone Colts goal.

Moose Jaw Central, seeded fifth, won the tournament with a 2-1 win over Carlton just hours after upsetting the top ranked Prince Albert St. Mary Maurders 4-1.
