The Swift Current Comp. Ardens capped another undefeated regular season in the Moose Jaw High Soccer League with a 5-2 win over the visiting Moose Jaw Peacock Tornadoes.
The Ardens broke the game open in the opening stages with three goals in the first eight minutes.
Grade 10 centre halfback Kaylee Kyle opened the scoring when she converted a loose ball off a corner kick from eight yards out at the two-minute mark. Four minutes later Emilie Erlandson blasted a shot in on a partial breakaway to make it 2-0. Cassidy Andres added to her league leading scoring total with a breakaway goal at the eight-minute mark. Erlandson also headed in a free kick, her second of the game, late in the half for a 4-0 lead.
The Ardens coasted through most of the final 82 minutes and it was evident on the scoresheet as they were out-scored 2-1 in the second half when Jessica Williams and Paige Lister counted for the visitors.
Brittany Schafer scored the lone Ardens’ second half goal when she converted a beautiful through ball from Daryl Wiebe for the 5-2 final.
The win left the Ardens unbeaten in the regular season for a second consecutive season with a 7-0-1 record.
The defending champion Ardens will now enjoy a much-needed six-day break before traveling to Moose Jaw for the semi-final next Thursday.
