The Millar College of the Bible women’s basketball team repeated as PAC Provincial champions with three straights wins this weekend.
The Edge women took on First Nations University of Canada in the championship game and won 77-61.
“We started off really strong and got a good lead. First Nations wouldn’t die and they came back,” explained Edge coach Kevin Peters, who also won the men’s title on Saturday.
Peters said that their lead shrunk from 20 point to five points in the second half. “The girls really pulled through. They did some really key things at that point to just seal the deal. They made some big shots and just played tough defense, so I was proud of that.”
Edge point guard Amy Clark led the team with 32 points in the championship game on her way to tournament Most Valuable Player honours. Gull Lake’s Rylee Mortensen pulled down 28 rebounds for the Edge and Jill Fletcher had 12 assists in the win.
The Edge faced Palliser SIAST in the semi-final Saturday morning and earned a 57-25 win. The Edge opened the tournament on Friday with a win over FNUC despite trailing by 12 points at one point.
