The Canadian Cowboy’s Association recently made rodeo stops in Radville and Moose Jaw.
A pair of Southwest competitors topped their respective events at the Long Creek Rodeo in Radville, where the Southwest accounted for eight money winners in five different events.
Stewart Valley’s Dannielle Dinius was fastest around the barrels in Ladies Barrel Racing in 14.25 seconds for $784.
Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz was other winner as he topped Tie Down Roping in 7.9 seconds for $624. Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer tied for third in 8.4 seconds for $355 and Val Marie’s rising star, Wyatt Hayes was fifth in 9.0 seconds for $193.
Maple Creek’s Shelton Udal continued his recent success with a 76-point ride on ‘Arthur’ to tie for second in Saddle Bronc for $289.
Stewart Valley’s Dallas Kornfeld teamed up with Randy Paicu to place second in Team Roping in 5.7 seconds for $914. Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer and Getz were fifth in 8.1 seconds for $342.
The Southwest barrel racers and team ropers had a dominating weekend at the Moose Jaw Hometown Rodeo on June 22-24 as well.
Five of the eight Ladies Barrel Racing money winners came out of the Southwest, led by Stewart Valley’s Janet-Lynn Moen, who placed first in 15.36 seconds for $1,481. Not far behind was Maple Creek’s Taryn Parsonage in second in 15.48 seconds for $1,288. Dinius was fourth in 15.54 seconds for $901. Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes was fifth in 15.60 seconds for $708 and Jill Parsonage was seventh in 15.71 seconds for $322.
Mankota’s Shawn Williamson teamed with Vaughn Warken to place second in Team Roping in 5.5 seconds for $1,748. Waldeck’s Tuftin and Scott McLeod were third in 6.0 seconds for $1,485. Maple Creek’s Christian Brost and Swift Current’s Chad Feil rounded out the Southwest Team Roping money winners in Moose Jaw in eighth place in 6.8 seconds for $174.
Beechy’s Travis Jansen tied for fifth in Bull Riding with a score of 68 for $186.
Blaine Switzer was in the money again in Tie Down Roping in 19 seconds to place eighth for $77.
Next up on the CCA calendar are events this weekend in Moosomin and Wood Mountain.
The next CCA event in the Southwest will be Boomtown Stampede Days in Shaunavon on July 20-21.
