Shadows remain on track for Hoopla bid

The Shaunavon Shadows basketball team took care of business on Saturday at they began their road to Hoopla at the 3A Boys Conference Tournament in Biggar.

The Shadows defeated Biggar 84-63 in the Conference championship game. Matthew Benesh accounted for nearly half of the Shadows’ points with a 40-point game to go along with seven assists and five steals. Jesse Voll added 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. Marty Funk also had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Jay Selvig contributed six points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. Dillan Carlson added six points, four rebounds, and four assists.

The Maple Creek Rebels were knocked out of the provincial playoff picture with a 71-56 loss to Biggar on Saturday.

The Shadows will be in Moosomin for a four-team SHSAA Regional Championship this weekend with the winner advancing to Hoopla next weekend in Regina. The Shadows will open their tournament on Friday at 8 p.m. against Kamsack.
