Three Southwest 1A teams advance to Regionals

All three Southwest 1A basketball teams advanced to their respective Regional tournaments this weekend.

The Frontier Raiders easily advanced to the SHSAA 1A Girls Regional Basketball Championships with a Conference Championship win in Bengough on Saturday.

The Raiders had no problems with the host squad in their only game as they downed Bengough 78-32. Samantha Glenn led the offense with 18 points, followed by Melissa Peacock with 16 points.

The Raiders will be off to Foam Lake for Regionals where they will open their tournament on Friday at 8 p.m. against Hepburn.

The Herbert Laurels girls basketball team had no problems advancing to Regionals with two blowout wins at the 1A Girls Conference Championships in Holdfast.

Herbert opened the tournament with an 87-43 win over Regina Western Christian. Sydney Seib led the Laurels with 26 points in the win.

The Laurels were every bit as dominant in the Conference Championship game as they defeated Central Butte 59-18. The Laurels led 32-14 at halftime and allowed only four points in the second half. Seib led the offense once again with 19 points.

The Laurels will head north for Regionals in Melfort, beginning Friday afternoon against Fillmore.

The Herbert Laurels boys basketball team used home-court advantage to earn a spot at Regionals this weekend. The Laurels hosted the 1A Boys Conference Championships and rattled off a pair of wins to place first overall.

The hosts opened their tournament on Saturday against Davidson and earned an 88-58 win. Layton Dueck led the Laurels with 21 points.

They locked up the Conference title with a 100-92 win over Craik. Grade nine Kurt Robertson led the Laurels with 28 points during the high-scoring affair.

The Laurels will host Regionals beginning Friday evening against Southey at 6 p.m.
