Six Southwest high school basketball teams have worked their way into their respective top 10 rankings among Saskatchewan high school basketball teams.
The Shaunavon Shadows are the top Southwest team as they climbed the 3A Boys rankings from fifth to second behind Clavet. The Shadows finished undefeated in the SWAC senior basketball league this season with six wins, out-scoring their opponents 477-264.
The Swift Current Comp. Colts are the only other Southwest boys team in the rankings. The Colts are ranked sixth in 4A boys behind North Battleford Comp., Moose Jaw Central, Yorkton Regional, Prince Albert St. Mary, and Regina Miller. The Colts climbed from 10th to sixth since the first set of rankings were released earlier this season.
The Frontier Raiders are the top ranked Southwest girls teams, ranked sixth among 1A teams behind Kinistino, Lake Lenore, Foam Lake, Regina Harvest City, and Kenaston. They are followed by the Herbert Laurels in seventh spot. Frontier dropped two spots from fourth in the initial rankings, while Herbert dropped from fifth.
The Swift Current Comp. Ardens are ranked eighth among 4A girls teams. North Battleford Comp, Humboldt, and Notre Dame lead the 4A girls rankings. The Ardens were ranked sixth in the January rankings.
The Shaunavon Silhouettes round out the Southwest contingent, ranked ninth among 3A Girls teams, a category led by Lumsden, Caronport, and Indian Head. The Silhouettes were unranked in the January rankings.
The 1A - 4A top 10 was compiled by an independent group of volunteers from the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association, are interest based only, and only include teams that have submitted their results. The February rankings are the second and final rankings to be released prior to the provincial playoffs beginning on March 9.
Hoopla 2012, the SHSAA provincial championships for 1A-5A basketball, will take place in Regina on March 23-25 at the University of Regina and Campbell Collegiate.
