The SWAC Senior Basketball Leagues are currently in their final week of the regular season.

The Frontier Raiders lead the girls league with four wins and no losses. They most recently defeated the visiting Swift Current Comp. Junior Ardens 64-37 led by 16 points from Samantha Glenn and 12 from Melissa Peacock. Jenna Krahn led the Ardens with 14 points.

Glenn is the second leading scorer in the league with 15.8 points per game, trailing only Herbert’s Syd Seib, who is averaging 18 points per game.

The Junior Ardens also defeated the Shaunavon Silhouettes 43-38 on Jan. 31, led by 12 points from Shae-Lynn Bolton and 11 from Kaity Letwiniuk. Letwiniuk is now fourth in league scoring at 11.3 points per game. Shaunavon top scorers were Lacey Pritchard with eight and Alex Galey with seven points.

The Ardens are now fourth with a 2-4 record, Herbert is second at 4-1, Shaunavon is third at 2-4, and Maple Creek remains winless at 0-4.

The Herbert Laurels travelled to Maple Creek and defeated the Rebelles 60-46. Seib had 25 points to lead the Laurels.  Replying for Maple Creek were Raelene Boschee with 21 points and Cassie Chabot with 15.

In boys’ action, the Shaunavon Shadows remained undefeated in league play with a 71-40 win over the Swift Current Junior Colts.  Matt Benesh had 23 points and Dillon Carlson added 13 for the Shadows, while Matt Bissonnette added 16 and Marcus Mayall had 10 for the Junior Colts.

The Shadows are first in the standings with a 5-0 mark, while the Junior Colts sit second at 4-2. Benesh leads all scorers with 28.3 points per game. Swift Current’s Jordan Bloom is a distant second with 14.3 per game.

The hometown Maple Creek Rebels also defeated the Herbert Laurels 62-42.  Braeden Ternes led the Rebels with 22 points while Ridge Mosquito added 12.  The Laurels were led by Derek Doerkson with 11 and Kurt Robertson with 10 points.

The Gull Lake Lions hosted the Junior Colts on Thursday and the Colts cruised to a 75-11 win.  Logan Tisdale and Reid Fritzke both had 16 points in the game for the Colts.

Maple Creek is third at 2-3, Herbert is fourth at 2-3, while the Gull Lake Lions remain winless at 0-5.
