The Swift Current Comp. Senior Colts basketball team continue to round into form as they picked up a pair of weekend wins in preparation for what they hope will be a long provincial playoff run.

The Colts were in Shaunavon where they defeated the host Shadows 67-57 on Friday led by 16 points from Justin Kehler. Connor Chau pulled in seven rebounds, while Juan Cabrales had six steals and three assists.

Coach Adam Jackson noted that his team’s press defense forced the Shadows into multiple turnovers as they held Shadows’ sharpshooter Matthew Benesh to only 14 points.

Saturday, the Colts were in a giving mood as they tallied 25 assists in a 101-49 win over the North Battleford John Paul II Crusaders.

Chau led the attack with 22 points, while Kehler pulled down nine rebounds. Cabrales added five more steals, while Chad Schultz and Dallin Martin added four assists each.

The Colts scored 31 points in the first quarter and 30 more in the third quarter as their unselfishness led to many high percentage shots.

The Colts are now riding a five-game winning streak and have won seven of their past eight games. They have also posted a 10-3 record after starting the season 5-5.

The Colts will begin their pursuit of a spot at Hoopla this weekend when they travel to Moose Jaw where they will need to place in the top half of the four-team, 4A Boys Conference tournament.
