The Swift Current Comp. Colts senior basketball team had a solid showing at the 2011 Speedy Creek Shootout on their way to a second place showing after opening their home tournament with a pair of dominating wins.

The Colts spotted the Prince Albert St. Mary Marauders a 19-0 lead in Saturday night’s final, but still managed to take a fourth quarter lead before losing 71-66 as a result of some timely three-pointers from the Marauders, who won the tournament for a second straight year.

The Colts opened the tournament with a 68-39 win over the Moose Jaw AE Peacock Toilers.

In the semi-final, the Colts held Prince Albert Carlton to eight points in the first half on their way to a 60-31 upset of the ninth ranked Crusaders.

The Colts had an outstanding weekend at the defensive end of the court, leading all eight teams with only 47 points allowed per game. At the offensive end, the Colts were second, scoring 64.7 points per game.

6’7’’ grade 11 post Justin Kehler led the Colts offense as he averaged 11.3 point per game with a team leading 63 percent field goal percentage and he also pulled down 19 rebounds to lead the team.

Grade 12 forward Ty Vandersteen led the team with six assists and five rebounds as well.

The Colts will be back on their home court this weekend when they co-host a tournament with the Ardens. The Colts will open their tournament on Friday at 3:45 p.m. against the Shaunavon Shadows.
