SCCHS wins three cross country titles

114 athletes from around the Southwest took part in the SWAC Cross Country Championships on Wednesday in Hazlet where the Swift Current Comp. High School was the dominant team, winning three of the six high school races.

Swift Current’s Kolin Martens won the Senior Boys 6K race with a time of 26:20, Jordan Bloom won the Midget Boys 4K race with a time of 20:44 and Tenille Gering won the Junior Girls 4K race with a time of 19:32.

All seven members of the Comp. Cross Country team advanced to the SHSAA Provincial Cross Country Championships in Regina on October 16th.

Other top finishers for the Comp. were Shania Jansen, who finished second in the Midget Girls 3k race with a time of 16:28.  In the Senior Girls 4k race, Kayla Ogilvie finished second with a time of 22:24, Kayla Hawkins finished third with a time of 22:41 and Brittany Morgan finished fourth with a time of 23:29.

Herbert’s Kim Doll was the top Senior Girls runner, Nathan Benson won in his hometown in the Junior Boys category, and Eastend’s Shaila Humphrey topped the Midget Girls race.

Races were also held for middle school competitors. Swift Current St. Joseph’s Marcus Kouri won the Bantam Boys race, while Hodgeville’s Brooklyn Haubrich topped the Bantam Girls event.

Wymark’s Michael Grose was the top Pee Wee Boys runner, while Frontier’s Amanda Mitchell topped the Pee Wee Girls competition.
