After a brief delay caused by extreme cold weather, Swift Current's outdoor rinks are now open for operation.

The scheduled opening of the city's five outdoor rinks was bumped back while the extreme cold gripped the Southwest.

"The staff of the Recreation and Parks Department has worked very hard throughout the month of December to prepare the ice for activity," noted Parks Manager Andy Toth. "As a result of the commitment of our staff, the five outdoor rinks are going to be in great shape for public use."

The hours of operation at the rinks will be similar to last year, and extra hours have been added for the Christmas holidays.

"The rinks will usually continue to operate until the end of February, but operation is based on weather conditions," Toth said.

Rink schedules are available at City Hall or on the City of Swift Current webpage www.swiftcurrent.ca.

The use of the rinks is free of charge for all users during regular scheduled times, but are available to book outside of these times for $28 per hour.

Additional information on outdoor rink bookings or skating hours is available by contacting the Recreation and Parks Department at 778-2787.
