The fourth annual Battle of the Southwest volleyball showdown between Millar College and the Great Plains College SunDogs was a classic.
Of eight games played by the men's and women's teams, three games featured tie breakers after being tied 24-24, and all but one game was decided by a margin of six points or less.
The men's contest was a hotly contested affair, with Millar College winning in five games (27-25, 25-20, 19-25, 24-26, 15-12). Millar won the opening game in a tie breaker and then took a commanding lead in the set with a 25-20 lead. The SunDogs fought back with a six point win and a tie-breaking victory to set up the thrilling fifth and deciding game. Again, there was little separating the teams, with Millar claiming a 15-12 victory.
For the first time in the four year history of the challenge series, a SunDogs team was able to post a victory, with the women's team downing Millar College by a 26-24, 25-13, 25-23 margin.
