The Speedy Creek Drag Racing Association capped their fourth season with a double race day weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Swift Current Airport.
SCDRA president Greg Mackay said that the season concluded in fine fashion with plenty of cars and spectators.
“We just finished our two-day finale of the season for Swift Current drag racing and it was a pretty good event. Between the two days we had 240 cars, some of the same cars during Saturday and Sunday, but we had about 120 cars registered each day. The crowd Saturday was really good. We are not sure on attendance just yet but Saturday was really super. Sunday was a little bit slower but Saturday was really good with lots of support from the community.”
Mackay said that drag racing continues to thrive in Swift Current after four seasons of action.
“This was actually one of our best seasons yet. Between the cars and participation from all the prairie provinces and the northern U.S. we have had lots of support from the drag racing community and from Swift Current too. It has just been incredible, the people just don’t seem to get tired of it they just keep coming out to watch it.”
The SCDRA held three weekend events this season with four days of racing in total.
We are just going to stay the course and try and keep doing what we are doing - Greg Mackay, SCDRA President
“We are likely going to keep the same format with the way we are now,” explained Mackay. “With the City and the uncertainty of the airport we can’t get too greedy with any more race days because the City is not too sure what direction the airport is going to go in right now. Right now we still have two years remaining on the contract so we are just going to stay the course and try and keep doing what we are doing. We want to keep a limited number of events and keep the people happy with what we are putting out there.”
