A trio of Southwest arena projects will be receiving $315,000 in federal assistance from the Recreation Infrastructure in Canada (RInC) Program.

The federal government funding will results in renovations to arenas in Frontier, Beechy, plus improvements to the Glentworth arena in the RM of Waverly. The province and municipal government will also fund one-third of the work.

The project in Beechy is designed to replace the boards at the town arena, create a wheelchair accessible concrete entryway, and install a wheelchair platform lift. The project will also improve dressing room sanitation and safety with the installation of new flooring.

In Frontier the project will rehabilitate the village arena. This includes the replacement of the existing boards and bleachers, and the addition of a cement floor. These upgrades will improve safety, and allow the arena to remain open year round rather than for the winter season only. The cement floor will improve the ability to make ice and therefore increase energy efficiency and water usage.

The R.M. of Waverley's project involves the construction of a new dressing room at the Hamlet of Glentworth arena and improvements to accessibility through the addition of wheelchair accessible washrooms. These improvements will address the need to provide accessible facilities to all patrons.
