Rodeo set for Shaunavon Boomtown Days

Canadian Cowboys' Association rodeo competitors will converge on Shaunavon this weekend for the annual Shaunavon Rodeo during Boomtown Days.

Saddle bronc riding, bareback, bull riding, tie down roping, steer wrestling, ladies barrel racing, team roping, junior bull riding, and junior girls barrel racing are all slated for the two-day event.

Canadian Cowboys' Association rodeo competitors will converge on Shaunavon this weekend for the annual Shaunavon Rodeo during Boomtown Days.

Saddle bronc riding, bareback, bull riding, tie down roping, steer wrestling, ladies barrel racing, team roping, junior bull riding, and junior girls barrel racing are all slated for the two-day event.

Among the notable competitors in saddle bronc will be Bracken products Kyreon and Rylan Geiger and Morse's Ryan Friesen who all find themselves among the leaders on the Budlight CCA leaderboard.

Local competitor Tanner Allemand will be looking for a strong performance in front of the hometown crowd in the bull riding and junior bull riding events.

Swift Current's Matt Switzer leads the Southwest entrants in tie down roping joined by Shaunavon's Lee Wallis.

Steer Wresting will feature a pair of locals in Brian Breen and Mike Lewans as well Swift Current's Dusty Caragata who currently leads the Budlight CCA standings.

Ladies barrel racing will see no fewer than eight Southwest competitors highlighted by Aneroid's Bailee Switzer and Stewart Valley's Dannielle Dinius.

Team roping features Waldeck's Scott McLeod who teams with Central Butte's Owen Schmitz to form one of the circuit's top duos.

Also in team roping action will be Shaunavon's Mario Dordu, Mark Dordu, Colin Smith, and Lee Wallis.

Swift Current's Kaylie Walker will join Maple Creek's Tori and Mardi Yarshenko in junior girls barrel racing.

Action will get underway at 6 p.m. in the Ron Winquist Arena at Shaunavon Rodeo Grounds both Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the grounds is $10 and kids 12 and under are free.
