Broncos suffer first preseason loss

The Swift Current Broncos allowed three goals in the final 4:38 of regulation to suffer a 5-4 loss to the host Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday.

The loss evens the Broncos' preseason record at 1-1 with five games remaining prior to the start of the 2014-15 Western Hockey League season.

Tyler Robertson, Ben Carroll, and Edgars Kulda all scored for Edmonton in the final minutes to lift the Oil Kings to the win.

Travis Child, 17, took the loss for the Broncos despite making 36 saves. Rookie import Andreas Schumacher scored twice and defenseman Jordan Harris had a powerplay goal and two assists in the loss. Dakota Odgers also scored and Brycen Martin had a pair of assists.

The Broncos had led 2-0 after one period, 3-1 during the second period, and 4-2 early in the third period before Edmonton scored three unanswered goals.

Swift Current finished one-for-four on the powerplay and killed off all three Edmonton man-advantages.

The Broncos are back on the ice today at 3 p.m. in St. Albert against the Red Deer Rebels.
