Swift Current Broncos defencemen Julius Honka, Brycen Martin and Brett Lernout are among 119 of the top National Hockey League draft-eligible players from North America and Europe who have been invited to the 2014 NHL Scouting Combine which will be held May 26-31 in Toronto.
Honka is currently ranked 11th amongst North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings. The 5’11”, 180-pound product of Jyvaskyla, Finland recorded 56 points (16-40-56) and 52 penalty minutes in 62 games played in his rookie campaign with the Broncos.
Martin is currently ranked 26th amongst North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings. The 6’2”, 195-pound product of Calgary posted 37 points (6-31-37) in 72 games played with the Broncos this year, nearly doubling his point totals from last season.
Lernout is currently ranked 52nd amongst North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings. The 6’4”, 206-pound product of Winnipeg recorded 22 points (8-14-22) and 103 penalty minutes in 72 games played with the Broncos this year.
The Combine consists of three elements, team interviews, medical examinations, physical testing, and players participate in all segments. Dan Marr, the director of NHL Central Scouting, is anticipating the attendance of 119 players, including 101 North Americans, at the Combine.
23 of the 119 players invited to the Combine are from the Western Hockey League.
The 2014 NHL Entry Draft will take place June 27-28, 2014 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
