Broncos swap veteran defenseman to Vancouver for forward Leone

Swift Current Broncos

The Swift Current Broncos traded veteran defenseman Bobby Zinkan to the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday.

Faced with the possibility of returning all eight defenseman next season, the Broncos shipped Zinkan to the Giants for forward Luca Leone and a sixth round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Leone is a 1996-born forward who recorded six points and six penalty minutes in 33 games last season. The 6', 190-pound Vancouver native was signed by the Giants in January of 2013 and has 11 points and 20 penalty minutes in 63 WHL games.

“He’s (Leone) a really strong skater with good size,” said General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb in the team's trade announcement. “He’s a ’96-born forward that we think will fit well in our group and be a solid player for us.”

Zinkan registered four points, 60 penalty minutes, and a plus-nine rating in 52 games with the Broncos last season, his second WHL campaign. The Calgary native was the Broncos fourth-round pick, 81st overall, in the 2010 Bantam Draft.
