The Swift Current 18U Boys Junior SunDogs volleyball team was eliminated in the quarter-finals from the HVC Open tournament in Saskatoon over the weekend. The 18U SunDogs, coached by Les Collins, had won a tournament in Nipawin just three weeks earlier.

They ran into the host HVC 18U team Saturday afternoon and lost (20-25, 23-25) to see their weekend come to an end short of the medal games. The SunDogs had finished fourth in the round robin with a 3-2 record.

They opened the tournament Friday afternoon with a three-set win over Prince Albert’s Smashing Bananas (25-19, 22-25, 15-7). They followed up that evening with another three-set win over the Martensville Hitmen (25-16, 22-25, 15-7).

The 18U SunDogs’ first match Saturday morning also went three sets, but this time the SunDogs lost to the South East Giants (18-25, 28-26, 12-15).

They were right back on the court minutes later and fell in straight sets to the HVC 17U squad (19-25, 23-19) to fall to .500.

The SunDogs rounded out the round robin with a win over SVVC (25-16, 25-19).
