2013/14 Swift Current Broncos
The Swift Current Broncos came up with their biggest win of the season when they scored four third-period goals to stun the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 Tuesday.
Jay Merkley capped an incredible comeback with the game winner with 2:56 left in regulation. The Broncos had trailed 2-0 early in the third period before Andrew Johnson scored to cut the deficit in half. Edmonton took the life out of the building just 13 seconds later when Henrik Samuelsson scored to restore the two-goal cushion.
Playing their fifth game in seven nights, the Broncos refused to fold and got goals 23 seconds apart from Nathan Burns and Colby Cave to tie the game before Merkley netted his 28th of the season to clinch the win.
Eetu Laurikainen made 26 saves in the win, while Tristan Jarry stopped 31 shots in the loss.
The Broncos now trail Kootenay by only one point for fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 34-24-3-6 record. Edmonton fell out of top spot in the conference with a 45-17-2-1 record as Calgary regained top spot.
The Broncos will be off until Friday when they visit the Red Deer Rebels (31-30-1-4), followed by a visit to the Lethbridge Hurricanes (12-50-2-3) on Saturday.
