Broncos can't match Oil Kings

The host Edmonton Oil Kings scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 win over the visiting Swift Current Broncos

The visiting Swift Current Broncos could not match the Eastern Conference leading Edmonton Oil Kings in a 4-1 loss Friday.

Colby Cave opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal 2:54 into regulation.  Lane Bauer tied the game at the 8:56 mark of the period with his seventh goal of the season.

Curtis Lazar and Riley Kieser scored goals 1:30 apart in the final 2:55 of the middle stanza to give the Oil Kings a 3-1 lead.

Ashton Sautner scored 1:49 into the third period to seal away the win.

Eetu Laurikainen dropped to 20-19-0-5 with 16 saves on 20 shots over 41:49 of work. Landon Bow took over after the fourth goal and stopped all 16 shots he faced.

Tristan Jarry made 25 saves to improve to 38-12-1-1 for the Oil Kings.

Swift Current dropped to 29-24-2-6 as they now trail the Regina Pats by six points for the East Division lead after their second straight loss. Edmonton improved to 43-14-1-1 as they continue to run away with the Eastern Conference lead.

The Broncos will continue their road trip on Saturday when they visit the Red Deer Rebels.

Bronco Bits: Cave scored his fourth shorthanded goal in 204 regular season WHL games. The Broncos captain now has 28 goals in 61 games this season, one more than he scored in his first 143 games in the league. Both teams finished without a goal on two powerplay opportunities each.
