Cyclones end lengthy losing streak

The Cypress Cyclones snapped a 24-game losing streak in the Prairie Junior Hockey League Sunday.

The week started off on a rough note Wednesday in an 8-0 loss to the host Traveland RV Storm in Pilot Butte.

Braedyn Lysak made 52 saves in a losing effort. Brett Kealy led the Storm with three goals and an assist and Garrett Legare added four assists. Josh Zimbaluk picked up the shutout with 12 saves.

The Storm visited Maple Creek on Saturday and skated out of town with a 13-0 win after outshooting the hosts 63-8.

Mitch Van Dusen took the loss with 10 saves on 18 shots over 23:18. Lysak made 40 saves on 45 shots in a relief appearance. 

Dylan Herzberg led the Storm with two goals and three assists and Eric Williams stopped eight shots in the shutout.

Lysak made 47 saves in a penalty filled 3-2 win over the Delisle Chiefs Sunday. Delisle took a 2-0 lead before Carter Forsyth scored a powerplay goal for a 2-1 deficit after one period.

Keenan Wilson scored on the powerplay to even the score 2-2 heading in the third period. Brody Beckstand scored the game winner 4:53 into the third period to close the scoring.

Beckstand, Blake Sanderson, and Christ Bartlett all picked up assists. Forsyth, playing in his third game of the season, was in on every goal in a three-point effort.

The Cyclones finished the weekend with a 3-31-0 record after their first win since October 22, 2013.

The Cyclones will play only one game this week when they visit Fort Knox in Fort Qu’Appelle on Saturday.
