The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires return to action from a lengthy hiatus tonight when they host the Battlefords Stars.
The Legionnaires finished 2013 with a 6-19-2-1 record in ninth spot in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. The Stars are in contention for top spot with an 18-6-4-1 record.
The Stars visited Swift Current in November and won the weekend opener 6-3 before Swift Current bounced back for a 3-3 draw the following day.
Veteran Connor Odelein leads the Legionnaires with 23 points in 28 games, while rookie Kolby Johnson leads the team with 12 goals and is second with 22 points. Defenseman Reid Fritzke leads the team with 15 assists this season.
Rookie goaltender Shane Blomquist has appeared in 25 of the team’s 28 games and leads the league by wide margins with 1,463 minutes played, 849 shots faced, and 760 saves.
The Stars are led offensively by Spencer Bast, the SMAAAHL’s fourth leading scorer, with 39 points in 29 games, including six powerplay goals. Josh Bly has 33 points in only 26 games and Josh LaFramboise has 27 points in 26 games. Ryan Rewerts is the number one goaltender with a 13-5-3 record, a 2.88 goals against average, and a .910 save percentage.
The Legionnaires will be off this weekend but will travel to Regina to visit the Pat Canadians (14-10-3-1) on Wednesday before hosting the next four games at home.
