Wildcats add second win at Mac's Tournament

Swift Current Wildcats

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats scored five unanswered goals to defeat the Northern Cougars at the Mac's AAA Midget World Invitational Tournament in Calgary Sunday.

The Wildcats trailed 2-0 before scoring the final five goals to win 5-2 and improve to 2-1-0-0 with one game left in the round robin.

The Northern Cougars scored both goals on the powerplay in the first period.

The Wildcats responded in a major way with second-period goals from Keely Chalk, Chloe Smith, Danya Winzer, and Karlie Bell to lead 4-0 after two periods. Winzer netted the game winner with 7:04 left in the second period, only 44 seconds after Smith had tied the game.

Gabrielle Gray scored into an empty net with 2:46 left in the third period to seal the win.

Brooklyn Weisgerber  made 22 saves on 24 shots for the win in her first appearance of the tournament. Brooklyn Haubrich, Brenna Thomson, Chalk, and Merissa Zerr all picked up assists in the win.

The Wildcats will conclude the round robin on Monday morning against the Calgary Flyers (1-2-0-0).
