Wildcats lose close one to Edmonton Thunder at Mac's Tournament

Swift Current Wildcats

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats dropped a 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Thunder Saturday morning to fall to 1-1 at the Mac's AAA Midget World Invitational in Calgary.

The game between two previously unbeaten teams was scoreless after one period.   Swift Current got goals from Mikayla Swallow and Danya Winzer to lead 2-1 after two periods but allowed two unanswered goals in the third period in the loss.

Alexandra Poznikoff scored both Edmonton goals in the third period. She tied the game with an even-strength marker 49 seconds in and then notched the game winner on the powerplay with 7:23 left in regulation.

Merissa Zerr, Jessica Pele, Karlie Bell, and Kate Scidmore picked up assists in the loss. Jasey Book took the loss with 28 saves on 31 shots in her second straight start in goal. The Wildcats beat Mackenzie Bevan for two goals on nine shots.

The Wildcats had opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over the Winnipeg Ice on Friday. They will continue the round robin against the Northern Cougars Sunday at 6 p.m.
