Swift Current Wildcats

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats' road struggles continued Monday in a 5-4 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Wildcats allowed four goals in the third period, including the game winner off the stick of MacKenzie Kuffner with 46 seconds left on the clock.

The Wildcats had led 1-0 after one period on a Jessica Pele goal. They led 2-1 after two periods on a Gabrielle Gray marker.

The two teams combined for six goals in the third, beginning with goals only 19 seconds apart as the Hounds took a 3-2 lead. The Wildcats quickly responded with goals from Brenna Thomson and Keely Chalk to regain a 4-3 lead with 12:52 left before the Hounds scored the final two goals.

The Wildcats now have two shootout wins and seven losses on the road, earning only four of a possible 27 points.

Brooklyn Weisgerber took the loss with 25 saves on 30 shots. Laura Wiebe earned the win for the Hounds with 28 saves.

Danya Winzer, Kayla Kirwan, Chloe Smith, Tori Carlson, Tori Kendall, and Merissa Zerr picked up assists for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats fell to fifth in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League standings with a 7-8-3-0 record. Notre Dame moved up to fourth with an 8-7-2-0 record.

The Wildcats will need to find a winning recipe on the road quickly. They will visit the sixth-place Prince Albert Bears (5-5-3-2) this weekend for two games before taking part in the Mac's AAA Midget World Invitational Tournament in Calgary from December 26 - January 1.
