Honka's OT powerplay goal completes comeback win

The Swift Current Broncos snapped a four-game winless streak with a 5-4 overtime win over the host Moose Jaw Warriors Saturday.
Julius Honka scored on the powerplay 3:28 into overtime, his second goal of the game, to complete a gritty comeback effort for Swift Current. The rookie import defenseman now has 10 goals on the season.
The Warriors led 3-0 after 20 minutes on goals from Erik Benoit, Sam Fioretti, and Jesse Forsberg as they outshot the Broncos 18-8 in the first period.
Eetu Laurikainen made the start and allowed three goals on 16 shots over 16:10 of work before being lifted in favor of Landon Bow.
The Broncos turned things around in the second period with goals from Honka, Andrew Johnson, and Zac Mackay to even the contest 3-3 heading into the final frame.
They earned their first lead early in the third period when Jay Merkley scored his 10th of the season, but 15-year-old Brett Howden netted his first WHL goal at the 10:33 mark to tie the game 4-4.
Bow finished with 23 saves over 47:18 to improve his record to 7-2-0-1 for the Broncos.
Justin Paulic made 34 saves to improve to 4-13-3-2 for Moose Jaw.
The Warriors finished three-for-five on the powerplay, while Swift Current was one-for-three courtesy of Honka’s OT winner.
Swift Current continues to lead the East Division with a 16-10-0-3 record, while Moose Jaw improved to 8-16-3-2.
The Broncos will now have five days off before hosting the Calgary Hitmen on Friday.
Bronco Bits: The Broncos have been to overtime in six game this season with two overtime wins, one shootout win, and three shootout losses. Graham Black had three assists in the game and is now tied for eighth in league scoring with 36 points in 28 games. Forward Tanner LeSann returned to the line-up after missing almost a full month due to injury and had an assist in his return.
