Wildcats captain leads team in scoring while playing multiple positions
Swift Current Wildcats captain Brooklyn Haubrich was named the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League’s Third Star for the month of October.
The 16-year-old centre currently leads the team with five points in seven games. The Hodgeville product has displayed versatility by playing both centre and defense during her third season with the Wildcats and was voted team captain by her teammates.
Haubrich will also represent Saskatchewan at the 2013 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Calgary November 6-10. Saskatchewan will open the tournament against Ontario Red on Wednesday.
Rookie phenom Sophie Shirley was named the league’s First Star after an incredible start to her SFMAAAHL career. The Saskatoon Stars’ 14-year-old rookie registered 10 goals and two assists in her first 10 games.
Emma Waldenberg was named the Second Star after tying for the league lead with 12 points to help the Regina Rebels open the regular season with a 7-0-0 record.
Haubrich and the Wildcats will host Shirley and the Stars this weekend. The two teams will meet Saturday at 5:15 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fairview West Arena.
Saskatoon leads the league with an 8-0-1-1 record, while Swift Current sits fifth with a 1-5-1-0 mark, but are coming off their first regulation win. Saskatoon won both previous meetings 3-2 back on October 12-13 in Saskatoon.
