Broncos earn shootout victory for first road win in over a month
Connor Sanvido scored the only goal in the shootout to lift the Swift Current Broncos to their first road win in over a month with a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes Tuesday.
Landon Bow stopped Giorgio Estephan, Riley Sheen, and Reid Duke in the shootout to earn the win after making 29 saves in regulation and overtime to improve to 4-1-0-0.
Coda Gordon and Colby Cave were both stopped by Corbin Boes before Sanvido scored to end the game. Boes finished with 39 saves in the shootout loss.
The Broncos earned a lead just 46 seconds into the game when Jay Merkley scored against his former team. Lethbridge took a lead to the first intermission after goals from Sheen and Brady Ramsay scored for the Hurricanes.
Cave tied the contest late in the second period with his ninth goal of the campaign before the two teams played a scoreless third period and overtime.
The Broncos improved to 8-8-0-1 with their second straight win, while Lethbridge moved their record to 2-11-1-2 to remain last in the Eastern Conference.
The Broncos had not won on the road since their season opener on September 21 in Regina and now have a 2-7-0-0 record away from the Credit Union iplex.
The Broncos will look for a second straight road win when they visit the Saskatoon Blades (7-7-0-2) on Friday and the two teams will have a rematch Saturday in Swift Current.
