The Swift Current Broncos failed to hold a third-period lead in another one-goal loss
The Swift Current Broncos suffered their second straight loss with a 2-1 setback in Saskatoon Friday.
The two teams played over 43 minutes of scoreless hockey before Andrew Johnson scored his first goal with the Broncos for a 1-0 lead early in the third period.
Saskatoon needed only 46 seconds to reply when Nikita Scherbak scored on the powerplay. Nathan Burns netted the game winner with 5:18 remaining in regulation with his sixth goal of the season.
Eetu Laurikainen suffered the loss despite making 36 saves to drop to 2-3-0-1 on the season. Alex Moodie made 29 saves in the win for Saskatoon, who improved to 3-5-0-1. The Broncos dropped to 5-3-0-1 in the loss.
The Broncos will play their final home game before departing on their five-game west coast trip when they host the Vancouver Giants at 7 p.m. at the Credit Union iplex on Saturday.
The Swift Current Broncos and Farm Credit Canada have teamed up to host Drive Away Hunger at Saturday's game. Fans are encouraged to bring food items such as pasta, rice, canned soup, cereal, pasta sauce, infant formula and baby food, canned meats and fish, flour, canned/powdered milk, canned fruits and vegetables, and beans and legumes to the game. Food items will be collected and give tot he Swift Current Salvation Army.
