Swift Current product to skate in Winter Universiade Games in Trentino, Italy.

Swift Current’s Jenna Smith will represent her country at the 2013 Winter Universiade Games in Trentino, Italy this winter.

The former Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats forward was named to the Canada’s womens’ hockey team for the 26th biennial games, which will take place December 10-21.

Smith is now in her fourth season with the University of Calgary Dinos, where she won a CIS women’s hockey championship in 2012 and was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year in 2010-11.

She was second in team scoring last season with 29 points in 26 games with a plus-31 rating.

The Universiade Games will be a six-team tournament, with Great Britain, the United States, Japan, Russian, and Spain rounding out the field. Canada will be making its third appearance, having out-scored their opponents 97-10 with a perfect 14-0 record in their previous two appearances.
