Four Southwest skaters named to Team Saskatchewan for the Under-18 National Women’s Hockey Championship in Calgary.

The Southwest will be well represented at the Under-18 National Women’s Hockey Championship next month in Calgary.
Four Southwest skaters have been named to Saskatchewan’s 20-player roster for the national championship, which will be held November 6-10.
Two Kyle products are among six players on the Saskatchewan blueline. Mairi Sorenson in one of two right-handed shots on the blueline. The 5’7’’ defenseman posted three goals and eight assists in 22 games with the Notre Dame Hounds of the Junior Women’s Hockey League last season.
Joining her is Brooklyn Gillanders, a 5’7’’ defenseman who posted three points and 14 penalty minutes in 26 games last season with the Saskatoon Stars of the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League.
Twin sister Britannia Gillanders is one of 12 forwards with Team Saskatchewan. She registered eight goals and 12 assists in 27 games last season with the Warner Warriors in the JWHL.
Hodgeville’s Brooklyn Haubrich rounds out the Southwest contingent. The 5’3’’ Haubrich was second in scoring on the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats last season with nine goals and five assists in 28 games in the SFMAAAHL.
The Team Saskatchewan tryout process began in February with zone tryouts, followed by the SaskFirst Tournament, where 160 players from across the province took part. 42 players were selected out of that event and then attended the Top 42 U18 Summer Camp. The top 25 players were selected and took part in the Mandi Schwartz Challenge on September 19-22 where all members took part in two games and three practices.
Saskatchewan is grouped with Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario Red at Nationals and will open the tournament on Nov. 6 against Ontario Red at the Markin MacPhail Centre.
