Swift Current Broncos - Light It Up
An opportunistic Swift Current Broncos team opened the 2013-14 Western Hockey League regular season with a 7-2 win over the host Regina Pats Thursday.
The Broncos overcame penalty problems and scored seven goals on 25 shots in the win.
The Broncos found themselves shorthanded on nine occasions but only allowed one goal while shorthanded.
Coda Gordon and Julius Honka led the offense with a goal and two assists each, while Colby Cave added three assists.
Brycen Martin and Connor Sanvido both chipped in a goal and an assist for the Broncos. Dillon Heatherington, Zac Mackay, and Tanner LeSann also scored. Martin and Sanvido both scored on the powerplay as the Broncos finished two-for-four on the man-advantage in front of 4,049 fans at the Brandt Centre.
Landon Bow earned the win with 25 saves on 27 shots in the Swift Current goal. Geordie Maguire scored both Regina goals in the loss.
The two teams will meet again in Swift Current on Saturday at the Credit Union iplex in the Broncos' home opener at 7 p.m.
