Swift Current Broncos import defenseman Julius Honka scored the only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Hitmen Sunday in St. Albert.
The rookie from Finland scored his fourth goal in three games but the Broncos dropped to 2-1 in the preseason.
The Broncos outshot Calgary 37-20 but Evan Johnson and Chris Driedger combined for 35 saves to hand the Broncos their first loss.
Honka scored unassisted 15:02 into the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Eetu Laurikainen suffered the loss with 16 saves on 19 shots in his first appearance this preseason. The Broncos failed to score on 10 powerplay opportunities, while Calgary capitalized on eight man-advantages.
Jake Virtanen, Travis Sanheim, Layne Bensmiller, and Kenton Helgesen, into an empty net, all scored for Calgary in the win.
Swift Current will be back at home for exhibition games Wednesday against Saskatoon and Thursday against Medicine Hat.
