The Swift Current Broncos scored three goals in the opening 3:20 of the second period to break a 1-1 tie on their way to a 6-3 win over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders Tuesday.
Colby Cave scored two goals 1:53 apart, including the eventual game winner 3:20 into the middle stanza, his 20th of the season, to put the Broncos ahead 4-1.
Levi Bews also scored twice for the Broncos, including an empty net goal to seal the win during a four-point outing. Graham Black and Coda Gordon added singles for Swift Current, who won the season series with a 4-3-0-1 record,
Jayden Hart, Mike Winther, Dylan Busenius all replied for Prince Albert, who lost their second straight game.
Eetu Laurikainen made 33 saves on 36 shots to improve to 26-22-2-4 for Swift Current.
Luke Siemens made the start for Prince Albert and allowed three goals on 13 shots in only 21:27. Andy Desautels came on early in the second period and made 15 saves on 17 shots and was tagged with the loss to drop to 2-6-0-1.
The Broncos remain seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 32-28-3-4 record, while Prince Albert dropped to 35-25-2-4. The Broncos are now tied with Medicine Hat with 71 points, lead eight-place Kootenay by three points, and lead ninth-place Lethbridge by nine points as they close in on their first playoff appearance in three seasons. Any combination of three Swift Current wins or Lethbridge losses would clinch a playoff spot for Swift Current.
The Broncos will be back at home Wednesday to host the Moose Jaw Warriors (34-20-2-1) in their second last home game of the regular season.
